Organizing Your WorkSpace

Ever had the day when everything seems to be in chaos, and that includes your workspace? Have you ever been looking for that certain paperwork or even a bill and you know where you seen it last, but so much has taken over the space that you waste time searching through every single paper? Of course you have. We all have. That is why I am dedicating this series to getting your workspace under control.

Not only will you function better but you will also feel so much better. As the old saying goes, "a place for everything and everything in it's place". How true!!

Now from the picture above, that's what we don't want. This is what we are aiming for:

Now how to accomplish a more organized workspace:

START YOUR DAY WITH A TO-DO LIST:

Now I don't care where you want to right your To-Do list. It can be on a scrap piece of paper, on your computer, in a notebook, in your planner, on a Post-it note attached where you can see it, but you need a daily To-Do list. The only think I ask is that you know where you put your list so you have it to start your day.

DETERMINE PRIORITY:

Take your To-Do list and prioritize the list. What is the most important thing that you need to go today? Decide from there which one takes priority next and so on. This gives you the idea of what needs to be accomplished first and if you don't get around to the others, then they were not a top priority today.

SET UP PROJECT FOLDERS:

For all the projects that you have going on, from home projects, crafts, work projects, create a project folder for them. I prefer to use file folders but you can use your electronic devices to set these up also. Also, decide where you will house your project folders: in a file cabinet, in your desk, or in a file folder desk top organizer. This is also a good time to organize your folders for email. I know my email inbox gets overflowing with emails that I want or need to keep, so setting up folders to house the important emails will keep your inbox clean.

TACKLE YOUR CALENDAR SYSTEM:

This will depend on your preference but I recommend a physical calendar and not just relying on the calendar on your phone. Everything important needs to be on this calendar: important meetings, birthdays, anniversaries, appointments, school assignments, anything that you need to remember needs to be on the calendar.

This is also a good time to but deadlines for projects that you are working on. I would also include time for yourself such as exercise appointment that you  need just for you. If you use a day planner it is idea to plan your day out to keep yourself on schedule.

REDUCE THE CLUTTER:

Keep your desk clear and only have on the desk what you are currently working on. Now you don't have the problem of not being able to locate important documents and find things when they are needed.
